Darlene Szeles Resident Intern - Therapist, Clinical Mental Health Counseling
Darlene Szeles is completing her clinical training through Liberty University’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling Licensure program. As a mental health wellness advocate, Darlene values creating non-judgmental safe spaces for her clients focusing on the whole story and whole person. She operates with the integration approach which unites techniques, theories, and concepts from multiple models that are tailored and holistic.
Darlene believes in the rehabilitation and reconciliation process as well as psychoeducation to advocate for those who need to reach stabilization, learn new skills, and develop enhanced awareness of their self, values, and goals. She has a passion for therapeutic expression through creative arts when the soul and body need release and healing. Darlene is a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA), American Association for Christian Counselors (AACC), and a SYMBIS certified facilitator. She is an academic member of Chi Sigma Iota and Omega Nu Lambda National Honors Society.
Darlene’s previous career was in the tech space as a Sr. Producer for a Custom Mobile App Agency. There, she spearheaded teams and projects, both local and abroad, that created mobile app solutions for big brands, local independent shops, and created a new social space for live mobile video broadcasting. While she loved every ounce of her tech career, God began a work in her through tough life seasons to change her heart to live a full-time purpose-filled life being a facilitator/leader in healing ministry groups. God ultimately directed her path to pursue the clinical mental health counseling program.
Darlene’s ultimate experience has come from the school of hard knocks where she crashed and burned in her adolescent and early young adult life. It is there that her purpose was planted to learn through the debris of life. God transformed that debris into a beacon of hope through academic, ministry, and volunteering development. Darlene’s academic experiences in Rwanda, Africa and compassion trips to Mexico, Philippines, and Guatemala has equipped her to become more culturally aware and sensitive to the many complexities people have endured abroad. She believes that experiencing other parts of the world has aided her in helping diverse populations in her own communities and clinical sites. She has witnessed incredible life change through facilitating/leading trauma, grief, recovery, marriage, and creative groups.
Darlene is prepared to embark on this journey with God as a mental health professional to build safe therapeutic relationships with her clients.
