Psychiatric disorders often require treatment with both medication and therapy in order to successfully restore mental health. Medical providers are licensed to evaluate patients and prescribe medication that may help treat conditions like anxiety, depression, psychosis, substance use disorders, and also problems with attention, memory, or behavior.
When brain chemistry is imbalanced, a person's mood, thoughts, behavior, response to stress, and sometimes eating and sleeping patterns can be significantly be affected. Most medications are designed to help reestablish normal brain chemistry.
After being evaluated and properly diagnosed, the patient and provider will come to an agreement on how to proceed with treatment and decide if medication is appropriate. The patient will report any side effects and the provider may adjust the dosage over time. Depending on the condition, medication may be required for a short period of time or may be needed long term.
Who has put wisdom in the innermost being or given understanding to the mind? Job 38:36
God desires to give understanding of how to walk through this life and make good decisions based on His wisdom. To reach a state where one is receptive to receive His wisdom, the brain must be healthy. Sometimes, medications can act as a temporary bridge to restore brain health so that one may carry out God’s will and purpose and to be completely healed.
