A Call for participants for Faith-based Marriage Research Study:
Equipping Couples to Use Communication Skills to Develop a Supportive Marriage
Greetings my fellow Married Couple,
I am Mr. Anthony Redfearn, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and doctoral student in the Pastoral Care and Counseling program at Hood Theological Seminary, Salisbury NC.
I am inviting you to participate in a research study titled “Equipping Couples to Use Communication Skills to Develop a Supportive Marriage.” This data collection portion in researching is to equip marriage partners with the communication tools commonly used for marriage/pre-marriage interventions to improve communication skills in helping couples feel more supported in the marriage union.
This study is open to married couples of all ages and length of time in marriage who want to experience and practice communication skills as intervention tools and assess the influence of increased supportiveness in the marriage. The anonymity, confidentiality, and privacy of each couple will be practiced and adhered to strictly throughout the study. Couples will be unaware of other couples participating in the study and are sworn to confidentiality.
This Researcher will use a pre-interview and a post-interview approach to gather data from married couples’ volunteers.

There are no other compensations or incentives for participation in the study. At the end of the study, you will have gained 4-5 Communication Tools that can greatly enhance interaction in dyadic relational communication and will have the opportunity to connect to other resources and support to continue intimacy and growth in your marriage.
Your participation and your responses will remain confidential. Your response will contribute to research that aims to improve the counseling profession’s ability to support supportive marriages and decrease marital discord and divorce. Participation in the study is voluntary.

This Researcher will use a pre-interview and a post-interview approach to gather data from married couples’ volunteers.
Participants will:
- Need to sign consent form for participating in the study
- Need to participate in an online Pre-pare Enrich assessment approximately 40 minutes in length, a $35 value, no cost to you as an incentive and appreciation for your participation. This is a report assessing your relationship on constructs shown to be important for healthy relationships, creating awareness and dialogue around these areas. Prepare/Enrich is a scientific program that has been shown to improve relationship skills, decrease the chances of divorce, and significantly improve relationship satisfaction. The online survey must be completed by January 31, 2023.
- The couple will need to be available to meet virtually on Saturdays during February, for one hour, 11 am – 12 pm for instructions and psychoeducation. Please note: This project and project participation is not counseling or Therapy, though it can be a valuable therapeutic experience. Couples will meet each Saturday in February 4, 11, 18, and 25th for one hour. (11-12), for instructions, information, and psycho-education to be equipped with communication tools to be measured at the end for the amount of increase in supportiveness in the marriage.
